Berhampur: The Swarnim Vijay Mashaal (Victory Flame), commemorating 50 years of India’s victory in 1971 war with Pakistan, reached Gopalpur Military Station on Tuesday.
The ‘Victory Flame’ was received by Brigadier Sumeet Mathur Station Commandant Gopalpur Military Station with full military honours in presence of all personnel and ceremoniously installed in the station in Ganjam district.
On Wednesday, as per the programme, war veterans paid floral tributes to the Vijay Mashaal at the Military Station. They paid respect to the valour of Indian soldiers and recalled the resounding victory of the Indian Army in the war which led to the creation of ‘Bangladesh’ and surrender of around 93,000 soldiers of the Pakistan Army.
During the stay of the Victory Flame at the Station till October 27, ‘Run for fun- Victory run’, victory salutation by military band, equipment display and screening of 1971 war movie will be organised.
The Mashaal that reached Gopalpur Military Station from Raipur in Chhattisgarh, will proceed to INS Chilika on October 27.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi had handed over four Victory Flames to Indian Armed Forces at New Delhi on December 16 last year. These flames would travel to four corners of the country to display gratitude of the nation to the Indian Army veterans of the 1971 War.
