Mumbai: Following the controversy surrounding the song ‘Sarke Chunar’, actress-dancer Nora Fatehi appeared before the National Commission for Women (NCW) on Thursday and issued an apology.

Addressing the backlash, Nora said that she was “put in this situation” and clarified her stance amid the ongoing row linked to the song’s content and presentation.

Earlier, Nora had clarified that she was associated only with the Kannada version of the song and alleged that the Hindi version was released without her approval.

After appearing before the NCW, the actor told reporters she had submitted a written apology.

Nora also stated that she is aware of the accountability and influence that come with being a public figure and performer.

“I did (appear before the Commission) and I apologised. It was just a situation that I was put in, and there was no intention to offend anybody, but of course, I have to be responsible as an artist. I definitely apologised, we have done everything in writing,” she is heard saying in the video.

Nora also announced that as part of her efforts to make amends, she will support the education of orphaned girls.

“They have been so kind and helpful. It’s really important for us to give back to society. So, I decided that we should sponsor a few orphan girls, their education, so that is the goal after this matter,” she added.

Last month, actor Sanjay Dutt also appeared before the NCW after being summoned over the controversy linked to the song from ‘KD The Devil’.

The actor submitted a written apology and expressed regret for any “unintentional” offence or negative impact caused to society.

As part of a corrective initiative, Sanjay pledged to fund the education of 50 tribal girls, describing it as a step towards social welfare and the empowerment of women.

Nora had earlier skipped appearing before the NCW, informing the panel that she was overseas and requesting a new hearing date.

The Hindi version of the song, which was released on YouTube on March 15, sparked widespread criticism over its allegedly explicit lyrics.

Featuring Nora and Sanjay, the track drew backlash online, following which the makers removed the Hindi version from YouTube.

The controversy also drew criticism from several public figures, including Ravi Kishan, Kangana Ranaut and Armaan Malik.
