New York: Two historic planes of World War II era collided mid-air during an airshow at Dallas, Texas.

Six people, mostly flight crew members, are feared dead.

The two planes involved in the scary collision are a B-17 Flying Fortress bomber and a P-63 Kingcobra fighter aircraft.

Footage of the collision, which went viral on social media, shows the two planes exploding into a huge ball of flames as black smoke billows into the sky.

Watch the mid-air crash shared on Twitter:

There has been a midair collision between a historic B-17 bomber and a historic fighter plane (Appears to be a P51) at an air show in Dallas, Texas. Pilot conditions are unknown. Please be advised this video may be disturbing. pic.twitter.com/xoqAuKSvgV

Local administration hasn’t yet said how many people were on board. However, Hank Coates, president of Commemorative Air Force — the company that organised the airshow — was quoted as saying that the B-17 has a crew capacity of four to five people while P-63 has a single pilot.

Moments after the crash, emergency crews raced to the scene at Dallas Executive Airport. There were visuals of crumpled wreckage of the planes in a grassy area within the airport perimeter.

Coates said no paying customers were on the aircraft. He also informed the aircraft are flown by highly trained volunteers, often retired pilots.

A team of National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) investigators will arrive at the scene of the crash on Sunday.
