Kolkata: A purported video showing a senior woman professor getting “married” to a first-year student in a classroom at a state-run university in West Bengal’s Nadia district has gone viral. The university has ordered an inquiry into the incident. According to reports, the alleged incident took place in Psychology Department of Haringhata Technology College, which comes under the Maulana Abul Kalam Azad University of Technology.
In the video, the professor is seen dressed as a bride. The video also shows a first-year student performing various traditional Bengali Hindu wedding rituals, including the ‘sindoor daan’ (putting vermillion on bride’s forehead) and ‘mala bodol’ (exchange of garlands). All of it happened within the classroom.

The professor, who is also the head of the Psychology Department, and the student had gone missing after the video went viral, reported the Indian Express. After forming a three-member inquiry panel, the university has sought an explanation from the professor.
“We spoke with the professor and she said it was a part of their practical class. We’re not satisfied with her explanation. We started a probe… professor has been sent on leave,” Tapash Chakraborty, acting vice-chancellor of Haringhata Technology College, told the Indian Express.
The professor claimed that it was part of a psycho-drama demonstration and not a real wedding.
