[Watch] Bhubaneswar Police Issues Clarification On ‘Gangrape’ Case; Check What The Victim Has To Say

Bhubaneswar: Commissionerate Police on Wednesday issued a clarification stating that the December 11 birthday party incident was a case of an alleged rape attempt instead of gang rape as reported earlier.

“On December 12 morning, one woman reported in writing at Mancheswar police station that while she was sleeping with her child, one Malinga entered her house and attempted to outrage her modesty and assaulted her as well as her child along with his associates the previous night. In this connection, we have already arrested three accused. On December 13, we unintentionally released the press note, wrongly mentioning this to be a gang rape. We regret such an unintentional mistake and request all media to rectify the news to be a case of attempt to rape,” ACP, Zone V, Sanjeev Satpathy said.

Police had earlier identified the accused as Debashis Pradhan alias Malinga (24), Deepak Kumar Sethy (24) and Swadhin Kumar Nayak alias Sanu (22).

The woman also told the media that the accused had assaulted her and her child and it was not a case of gang rape. “They started the celebration at 12 midnight and it went up to 2 am in front of my house. One among them barged into my house in an inebriated state and attacked me. He abused me and threatened to kill me,” she said.

She later filed a written complaint against one person. “The youth also apologised for the incident and I am ready for a compromise since getting arrested would spoil their future,” she added.
