[Watch] Close Shave For Woman As Another Water Pipeline Bursts In Cuttack City

Cuttack: A 25-year-old woman had a narrow escape and sustained minor injuries when an underground drinking water pipe burst in the middle of the busy Badambadi Square on Sunday evening.

The traffic movement was affected for around 20 minutes. Engineers of Water Corporation of Odisha Limited (Watco) soon rushed to the spot and repaired the damaged pipeline.

Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CM) Commissioner Ananya Das has sought an explanation from Watco about the incident and asked them to prevent its recurrence.

This is the second such incident in the last few days. On October 6, an underground pipeline had burst on the Kathajodi Ring Road near Rajabagicha.

These underground drinking water pipelines laid under Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) scheme about two to three years back were not tested earlier, General Manager, Watco, Cuttack division, Debabrata Mohanty told the media.

“We are running it on a trial basis for testing. A weak T-point at Badambadi opened resulting in the incident and it has been repaired,” he was quoted as saying by TNIE.
