[Watch] Congress ‘Purifies’ Vidhana Soudha With Cow Urine As BJP’s ‘Corrupt’ Term Ends

Bengaluru: DK Shivakumar, who took oath as deputy chief minister of Karnataka on May 20, had said in January this year that it was time to “cleanse” the Vidhana Soudha (Assembly) with cow urine as it had been “polluted by corruption” during the BJP’s rule.

“We will come up with some details to clean the Vidhan Soudha. I also have some ganjala (cow urine) for purification,” the state Congress chief had said.

On Monday, he kept his word as Congress workers sprinkled cow urine and performed pooja at the iconic Vidhana Soudha premises here ahead of opening day’s proceedings of the Karnataka assembly session.

Congress swept to power earlier this month with 135 seats in the 224-member Assembly, reducing BJP to 65.

After days of drama, the party’s high command elected Siddaramaiah as leader of the legislature party in a power-sharing formula with the other contender Shivakumar.

Siddarmaiah, who took oath as chief minister for the second time, will be in the hot seat for two-and-a-half years before handing over reins to Shivakumar.

The two heavyweights apart, eight others were sworn in as Cabinet ministers on Saturday.
