Cuttack: The historic Cuttack Bali Jatra found a place in Guinness World Records on Tuesday after 2100 students of 22 schools made over 22,000 paper boats in 35 minutes at an event organised by the Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC).

The record is for ‘the most people folding origami sculptures simultaneously’.

Cuttack Collector Bhabani Shankar Chayani, Cuttack Mayor Subash Singh, and around 50 officials of Guinness World Records, including one from London, were present.

The school students were earlier trained to make paper boats for the world record attempt, which was aimed at attaining global recognition for Cuttack’s Bali Jatra, the largest open-air trade fair in Asia, on the Mahanadi riverbank.

The size and weight of the paper boats were prescribed by the record book authorities after CMC contacted its headquarters in London.

Meanwhile, the festival, which commemorates the rich maritime history of Odisha, has been extended by a day and will conclude on Thursday.
