Manali: A potentially fatal mishap in Manali has raised questions on the safety standards of adventure sport in our country.
A Nagpur family’s vacation in the picturesque resort town in Himachal Pradesh turned into a nightmare recently after their 10-year-old daughter was seriously injured in a ziplining accident.
Trisha Bijwe fell 30 feet into a rocky gorge while performing the adventure activity at a tourist zipline facility in Manali on June 8.
The accident took after the zipline cable Trisha was strapped to suddenly snapped mid-air.
The video of the heart-stopping moment, shared by the Bijwe family, shows the zipline cable breaking midway, and the helpless girl plunging nearly 30 feet into a gorge below amid a cluster of boulders.
This is why adventure sports aren’t safe in India. In Manali, a young girl fell from a zipline—nearly 30 feet—and is now seriously injured. Anyone without proper experience starts these activities, and there’s no one to check. Action is only taken after a fatal accident happens. pic.twitter.com/Xy5LNYRDwe

Trisha suffered multiple injuries, including fractures in her leg.
She underwent surgery and is currently stable, her father Prafulla Bijwe told PTI.
According to the family, there were no adequate safety measures at the site and they did not receive any immediate assistance after the accident.
Initially given medical attention in Manali, Trisha was later shifted to a hospital in Chandigarh.
It could well have been a fatal accident, and has raised serious concerns about safety standards and regulation at such adventure activity sites at popular tourist destinations.
“This is why adventure sports aren’t safe in India. In Manali, a young girl fell from a zipline — nearly 30 feet — and is now seriously injured. Anyone without proper experience starts these activities, and there’s no one to check. Action is only taken after a fatal accident happens,” an X user wrote alongside the video of the incident.
The viral video has triggered outrage on social media.
“This is horrific. There are a number of these unauthorized Ziplines operating all over India. Strict Action is needed against these operators to prevent such accidents,” one user wrote.
“Never, ever do adventure sports in India. You’ve got zero-experience folks running the show, no guardrails, no safety protocols, no clue about first aid and absolutely no fear of legal consequences,” another person fumed.
“Travelling inside India itself is an adventure!” commented one user.
