Haifa, Israel: Hezbollah fired a barrage of rockets toward northern Israel on Sunday night, claimed reports. In such a situation, the Israeli forces are on high alert for potential retaliation from Iran and its proxies, reported the CNN. This comes after the assassination of a key Hamas leader, Ismail Haniyeh, last month. While Israel has neither confirmed nor denied its involvement in killing of Haniyeh, both Iran and Hamas have blamed Israel for the assassination.

If Iran launches an attack on Israel, it may intensify into a wider regional conflict. Firing of rockets towards Israel by the Iran-backed Hezbollah militants in southern Lebanon region has become a common affair since the war outbreak in Gaza.
Earlier, the militant group had reportedly stated that its latest salvo was fired in support of Palestinians in Gaza and it was a retaliation for Israel’s strikes in southern Lebanon. Lebanon’s state-run National News Agency had reported earlier that an Israeli strike on Ma’aroub had left 12 injured, including six children.
30 rockets on an Israeli military base: Hezbollah claims Sunday night attack
According to various reports, Israel Defense Forces (IDF) had stated that at least 30 rockets were launched from Lebanon. While some fell into open areas, no injuries were reported so far. “IDF forces are deployed and prepared in high readiness.
According to the IDF, the rockets crossed from Lebanese territory into the Kabri region in northern Israel. If it becomes necessary to change the instructions, we will update about it in an orderly message on the official channels,” IDF spokesman Rear Adm. Daniel Hagari, said, as quoted by CNN. Hezbollah has claimed responsibility for the barrage. The Hezbollah-affiliated Al Mayadeen news site reported that the group had struck a military base of Israel.
