Mumbai: In this age of AI and other rapid technological advancements, broadcasters and producers are always looking for ways to enhance viewing experience for millions of fans who prefer to watch events from the comforts of their home.
The Indian Premier League (IPL), which has millions of viewers across the world, is no exception.
The popular, cash-rich T20 league has introduced a new tool which can majorly change how the game is viewed.
As action heats up in IPL 2025 and the marathon competition approaches the halfway mark, the organisers unveiled a robot with a difference.
In a video uploaded on the league’s social media accounts, a robot dog is introduced as IPL’s “new family member” which can “walk, run, jump, and bring you a ‘heart(y)’ smile”… And… A whole new vision.”
The organisers have also sought a name for the “newest member of the #TATAIPL Broadcast family.”
The robot dog is seen greeting the players during practice sessions.
As the four-legged machine met Mumbai Indians and Delhi Capitals captains Hardik Pandya and Axar Patel, and others, the cricketers were left impressed after seeing some of its features.
Axar asked, “Kya hai yeh?” (What is this?) and showed interest in the robot, while Hardik interacted with it and called it a “good boy” after it obeyed his commands.
Mumbai Indians pacer Englishman Reece Topley was also intrigued.
“What type of dog it is?”
Commentator Danny Morrison also interacted with the machine and said high-resolution cameras attached to it will bring a whole new dimension and dynamism to the broadcast.
The former New Zealand pacer requested fans to suggest names for the unique device, and announced that lucky fans will get to be a part of a special naming ceremony.
