Puri: The Odisha Crime Branch on Friday arrested two persons in connection with the suspicious death of Chitta Ranjan Palei, a close associate of BJD leader and deputy chairman of State Planning Board Sanjay Dasburma.
The accused have been identified as Jagannath Sarangi and Ashok Upadhyaya.
Speaking to mediapersons, Crime Branch DSP Sisir Mishra said the two have been arrested for criminal conspiracy and murder.
Giving details that led to the unfortunate incident, Mishra said Jagannath used to frequent a house at Chakrapada village in the district. They were family friends and Jagannath was acceptable too, but on December 11 night, Jagannath took Chittaranjan with him on a motorcycle to which the villagers objected. This led to tension between the two which culminated in a murder at the Nuanai river bank on the fateful night of December 10.
A native of Sanabandhakera village under Brahmagiri police limits in Puri district, Chittaranjan went missing on December 10 night. His family members lodged a complaint with police on December 11 stating that Chittaranjan had gone to attend a feast organised by Jaga at Matiapada on the fateful night, but did not return home.
It may be mentioned that Chitta’s body was recovered from Nuanai river on Monday and his family had demanded a CB probe a day later, claiming that he was murdered in a planned manner by his friend Jagannath Sarangi.
