[Watch] Odisha Flood: This Is Sundarpada Locality In Bhubaneswar!

Bhubaneswar: Floodwaters from the Daya river have entered Sundarpada locality in Bhubaneswar, a low-lying residential neighbourhood which is home to several high-rises.

Floodwaters have entered ground-floor houses, submerged roads and parked cars in the locality. Residents said the Daya river’s waters entered the locality on Monday. There is no power or drinking water supply since Tuesday, they said.

Fire services and ODRAF personnel have already rescued several families, moving them to safer locations. Several other families, who are yet to be rescued, have moved to upper floors.

Fire services and ODRAF personnel were on Tuesday seen rescuing many residents of the locality on inflatable rafts or carrying them on their shoulders in waist-deep water. Among those rescued were a mother and a seven-day-old baby. Wading through knee-deep water, local youths carried water pouches and biscuits for families who are yet to be moved out.

Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) Pradeep Kumar Jena on Tuesday asked the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) to take immediate measures to pump out floodwaters from the locality after he was apprised that no action has been taken by the civic authorities yet.
