Dhenkanal: Breaking the official practice, district collector himself performed Ganesh Puja on the office premises in Odisha’s Dhenkanal district.
With public participation being allowed in Ganesh Puja after a break of two years, the people in the district headquarters town have been found organising community puja with enthusiasm and excitement. Besides private educational institutions and commercial establishments, government offices are also performing puja on their premises.
The employees of district collector’s office are also not left behind in the celebration. Claimed to be for the first time in the history of the collector, Dhenkanal collector Saroj Kumar Sethi led the employees to organise the puja.

Sethi himself sat before the idol of Ganesh put up on a small pandal and performed the puja. Amid chanting of mantras by the pundit, Sethi performed the yajna. After the puja, he distributed the prasad and took it along with the employees and the people from outside the collectorate.
The state government had banned community celebration of any puja for the last two years to prevent spread of infection during the COVID pandemic. After that COVID infection rate came under control the government allowed public participation in Ganesh Puja this year.
As many as 39 public pandals have been erected across Dhenkanal district for celebration of Ganesh Puja this year. The district administration has made adequate arrangements for immersion procession scheduled on September 6.
