New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted the video of a military band playing ‘Aye Mere Watan Ke Logon’ during the Beating Retreat ceremony at Vijay Chowk.
The video has garnered more than 36,000 likes.
The music was arranged for the massed band by Major SR Bhusal. The ceremony was held in the presence of the PM and President Ram Nath Kovind.
Departing from tradition, the Hindi patriotic song was played in place of ‘Abide By Me.’
‘Aye Mere Watan Ke Logon’ was written by Kavi Pradeep to pay tribute to the sacrifice of Indian soldiers during the war against China and was first sung by Lata Mangeshkar. It is said that the country’s first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru had tears in his eyes when he first heard her sing this song.
The song continues to give goosebumps to all Indians.
