New Delhi: Chris Rock’s joke didn’t go down well with Will Smith, who walked to the Oscars stage and slapped the comedian at the 94th Academy Awards.
Rock, presenting the award for Best Documentary Feature, which went to Questlove’s Summer of Soul, joked about Smith’s wife, comparing Jada Pinkett Smith’s tightly cropped hair to Demi Moore’s appearance in “G.I. Jane”.
“Jada, I love ya. G.I. Jane 2, can’t wait to see it,” he said.
Smith stunned everyone as he walked up to Rock and slapped him before returning to his seat alongside Jada.
Smith’s comments were bleeped out but it was apparent that he shouted profanities at Rock.
Smith, who won the Best Actor Award for his performance in King Richard marking his first Oscar win in a three-decade career, apologised in his winning acceptance speech. He did not mention Rock in his speech.
