Well-Marked Low Pressure To Move Across Odisha Coast In 24 Hours; Very Heavy Rain Alert For 3 Days

Bhubaneswar: With the well-marked low pressure over Northwest Bay of Bengal expected to move west-northwestwards across North Odisha-West Bengal coasts during next 24 hours, very to heavy rain may lash Odisha for 3 days, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) informed on Saturday.

Orange warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall (7 to 20cm) has been issued for one or two places in Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Jajpur, Bhadrak, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Dhenkanal, Cuttack and Balasore till 8.30 am on Sunday. Heavy rain may also occur at one or two places in Sundargarh, Deogarh, Sambalpur, Angul, Nayagarh, Boudh, Puri, and Khurda. There is also yellow warning of thunderstorm with lightning for one or two places in North Odisha, South coastal Odisha, Sonepur, Boudh, Kandhamal, Balangir and Kalahandi.

The orange warning continues for next two days.

OCTOBER 1

Orange Warning

Heavy to very heavy rainfall (7 to 20cm) may occur at one or two places in Balangir, Bargarh, Sonepur, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Angul, Deogarh, Dhenkanal, and Mayurbhanj.

Yellow Warning

Heavy Rainfall (7 to 11cm) also likely at one or two places oin Balasore, Bhadrak, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Jajpur, Nayagarh, Boudh, Kandhamal, Khurda, Kalahandi, Nabarangpur, and Nuapada.

OCTOBER 2

Orange Warning

Heavy to very heavy rainfall (7 to 20cm) is likely at one or two places in Bargarh, Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Keonjhar, Angul and Sonepur.

Yellow Warning

Heavy Rainfall (7 to 11cm) may also occur at one or two places in Nuapada, Balangir, Kalahandi, Mayurbhanj, Boudh, Kandhamal, Cuttack, Dhenkanal, Jajpur, Bhadrak and Balasore.

Odisha is likely to experience 115.6 to 204.4 mm rainfall between September 30 and October 2.  The intensity of downpour may decrease on October 3 with heavy rainfall (7 to 11cm) at one or two places in Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, Sambalpur, Mayurbhanj, Deogarh, Bargarh, Balangir, Sonepur, Angul, Boudh, Nuapada and Keonjhar. There is no heavy rain warning thereafter.

The weather agency has warned of waterlogging in low-lying areas and underpass roads, inundation of agricultural fields, occasional reduction of visibility causing traffic congestion in urban areas and damage to kutch roads and houses during intense spells of rain. Farmers have been advised to postpone fertiliser/chemicals application in agricultural field and keep livestock at safe places.

In its morning bulletin, the IMD had forecast squally weather speed of 45-55 kmph gusting to 65 kmph over Northwest Bay of Bengal along and off North Odisha-Bengal coasts on October 1. The wind speed may decrease to 40-45 kmph gusting to 55 kmph over South, Central and Northwest Bay of Bengal along & off North Odisha-Bengal coasts on October 2 and Southwest & adjoining Westcentral and Northwest Bay of Bengal along & off North Odisha-Bengal coasts on October 3 and October 4.

Fishermen have been advised not to venture into these areas.
