New Delhi/Bhubaneswar: Speculation is mounting over a potential cabinet reshuffle and key organisational appointments in Odisha following Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi’s meeting with BJP national president Nitin Nabin at the party’s central office in Delhi on Thursday evening.

Sources indicate the discussions, which lasted more than an hour, centred on the state’s political situation, governance performance, and strategies to bolster the party’s organisational structure. State BJP president Manmohan Samal was also present in the national capital for these important deliberations.

The visit came shortly after Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s scheduled two-day tour to Odisha, originally set to begin around July 3 was cancelled. CM Majhi departed directly for the airport from the state convention centre in Bhubaneswar, where he had attended the signing of a major Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for what is described as India’s largest FDI in the metallurgical sector. Samal, downplayed the speculation, describing his Delhi trip as a routine organisational visit to meet various BJP office-bearers.

In a post on X, Majhi later mentioned his ‘courtesy meeting’ with the party president. “On this occasion, there was a highly positive discussion regarding Odisha’s progress, organisational strengthening, and the path of work for the coming days. We are committed to realising the vision of ‘A Prosperous Odisha’ and ‘Developed India’ under the visionary guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi,” he wrote.

Political analysts point to a confluence of factors fuelling the buzz. The BJP-led government in Odisha has completed two years in power, yet six cabinet berths remain vacant. Persistent speculation about a state-level reshuffle and expansion has grown stronger in recent months, with party insiders discussing performance of sitting ministers. As vacancies persist across several state-run boards and corporations, source further stated that 35 to 40 candidates shortlisted for the positions were also discussed during the meeting.

The timing of the Delhi visit also coincided with broader speculation about a possible reshuffle in the Union Cabinet.

While no official announcements have been made regarding outcomes from the meeting, the developments have intensified chatter in political circles about imminent changes aimed at strengthening both governance and the party’s grassroots presence in the state ahead of the rural polls.
