New Delhi: Is Prime Minister Narendra Modi planning retirement? Speculations went rife after Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut claimed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi was making plans to retire in September. The leader has claimed that Modi’s recent visit to the RSS headquarters in Nagpur was linked to his retirement. Raut claimed that PM Modi has not visited RSS headquarters in the last 10-11 years. According to Raut, Modi visited the headquarters to say “tata, bye, bye” to RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat.
Raut’s remarks came a day after PM Modi’s visit to the RSS headquarters in Nagpur. It is for the second time that a Prime Minister has officially visited the organisation’s headquarters. Earlier, Atal Bihari Vajpayee visited it in 2000.
“September mein retirement ka application likhne ke liye shayad woh RSS mukhyalay gaye [He has maybe gone to the RSS headquarters to submit his retirement application],” Raut said. The leader added that he believes the RSS wants a change in the country’s leadership.

“From what I understand the entire Sangh prarivar wants a change in the country’s leadership PM Modi’s time is over and they want change and they also want to choose the next BJP chief,” Raut added.
Meanwhile, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis asserted that Prime Minister Narendra Modi would continue to lead the country for many more years to come.
The Prime Minister will turn 75 on September 17. There are speculations that there is an unspoken rule of the saffron party that leaders older than that cannot hold ministerial berths.
The party has, however, said no such rule exists. There is at least one member of the union cabinet who is over that ‘age limit’ – 80-year-old Bihar leader Jitan Ram Manjhi, who is the Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises Minister. Others, including Modi are within a year or two.
Earlier, Arvind Kejriwal had said during last year’s election that Home Minister Amit Shah was being groomed to take over. However, BJP has never confirmed such claims.
