Mumbai: Boney Kapoor recalled a hilarious incident involving his mother and second wife Sridevi.
Bollywood’s top producer had started dating Sridevi when he was still married to Mona Shourie Kapoor, with whom Boney had had two kids — Arjun and Anshula.
Boney’s mother Nirmal Kapoor knew about his interest in Sridevi, but didn’t like the idea of a second woman in his life.
And so she tried to send Sridevi a message by asking her to tie a rakhi on Boney!
“My mother could see (my feelings for Sridevi). On Raksha Bandhan, she gave a thaali (puja plate) with rakhi to Sridevi and asked her to tie me a rakhi. Sridevi went to the room and I told her, ‘Don’t worry, don’t bother, keep this thaali here.’ She didn’t understand what the rakhi was all about,” Boney told Zoom TV.
Confessing his love for Sridevi even when he was married, Boney said, “My love for Sridevi was there. I wooed her for almost five to six years before I reached the peak or rather where I got to know I am in a good space with her.”
Boney, who ultimately married Sridevi in 1996, said he was “very honest” with his wife.
“She very well knew what my feelings were for Sridevi. In fact, Sridevi had stayed in the house much before we got married. I went out of my way on a lot of things where she is concerned. So she (Mona) could see it and I didn’t deny it,” recalled Boney, Anil and Sanjay Kapoor’s eldest brother.
Mona Kapoor died of cancer on March 25, 2012, while Sridevi passed away in February 2018 after drowning in the bathtub of a Dubai hotel.
