Mumbai: In her biographical web series, ‘Karenjit Kaur: The Untold Story of Sunny Leone’, the actor revisited one of the most emotional and challenging chapters of her life—revealing how her parents reacted after she told them she had entered the adult entertainment industry.
Recalling the emotional conversation, Sunny revealed that her mother’s first reaction was one of disbelief.
“You were naked?” she remembered her asking, adding that the revelation left her family heartbroken.
Sunny admitted she had always known her decision would come as a shock to her parents.
Although her work in adult films and nude photoshoots had brought her financial stability and recognition, informing her family about her career turned out to be one of the toughest challenges she had faced.
Hoping to soften the impact, she also shared that she had been named Penthouse Pet of the Year and had won a cash prize of $100,000.
However, instead of celebrating her achievement, her parents were left speechless as they struggled to process the news.
“My mother wasn’t happy when she found out who I was. Why did you have to pick that name? Your brother’s name? I was like I don’t know I just picked it,” Sunny shared.
Sunny also revealed that her father was deeply hurt by the fact that she had made such a life-altering decision without discussing it with her parents first.
“You obviously didn’t consult us before you made this decision,” her father said.
However, he eventually came to accept that it was her decision and respected the path she had chosen for herself.
“If she had made this choice she has to ‘now own it and be successful,'” she added.
Sunny explained that although her family was not struggling financially, her parents could not always provide her and her brother with everything they desired.
Determined to achieve financial independence at a young age, she believed entering the adult entertainment industry was the fastest way to secure it.
She added that once news of her career spread among relatives, her parents were forced to deal with constant judgment and criticism from members of the extended family.
“My mother had told me my dad was upset, he used to cry. Even when I told my mother she cried a lot. They were thinking that if they forcefully stop me, I might just gain more curiosity and then I might not return from that world. My relatives don’t speak to me anymore,” she revealed.
Despite the criticism and controversy surrounding her career, Sunny said she never regretted her decision and stood firmly by the path she had chosen.
“This is how it is, this is how it’s going to be. I’m not changing my mind. I don’t regret it and you just need to get over it,” she said.
Following her Bollywood debut with ‘Jism 2’ in 2012, Sunny successfully transitioned into mainstream Hindi cinema.
She went on to feature in films including ‘Ragini MMS 2’, ‘Ek Paheli Leela’, ‘Mastizaade’, ‘One Night Stand’ and ‘Kennedy’.
Beyond films, Sunny has established herself as a familiar face on television through reality shows such as ‘Bigg Boss’ and has delivered several popular dance numbers, including Baby Doll, Desi Look and Laila Main Laila, which remain fan favourites.
