Bhubaneswar: In an exciting news for wildlife enthusiasts, Mousumi, the majestic white tigress of Nandankanan Zoological Park in Odisha, has gave birth to two cubs.
She delivered the cubs at 9.15 pm and 11.03 pm in Enclosure 28B of the zoo, on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar, on June 7 night.
Zoo officials confirmed that one cub has the typical orange coat of a Bengal tiger and the other a distinctive white coat characteristic of white tigers. The gender of the cubs is yet to be ascertained as they remain under their mother’s care.
The cubs were born after a successful mating between Mousumi and normal-coloured tiger Rajesh on February 27 and 28. This is Mousumi’s second litter.
Mousumi, the white tigress, was born at Nandankanan in 2016, to tiger Manish and tigress Sneha.
With these cubs, the zoo’s tiger count has touched 29, comprising 19 normal-coloured tigers (11 males, 7 females, 1 cub), six white tigers (3 males, 2 females, 1 cub), and four melanistic tigers (3 males, 1 female).
