New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has conveyed to US president Donald Trump that Operation Sindoor is still on and India would not pursue any trade deals while combating terrorism.
In a 35-minute phone call with Trump, Modi also made it clear that the US had no role to play in the cessation of military operations by India against Pakistan.
“President Trump and PM Modi had a conversation for about 35 minutes today. During the conversation, PM Modi told Trump that India will reply to Pakistan’s bullets with shells. PM Modi said India’s Operation Sindoor is still going on,” foreign secretary Vikram Misri said in a press briefing.
Modi also told Trump that neither has India and the US spoken on any trade deal, nor did the US play a role the mediation process. “The mediation was done via existing channels between India and Pakistan at the request of the latter,” Misri added.
During their interaction, Trump invited Modi to the US after his current visit to Canada for the G7 Summit. The Prime Minister declined due to a pre-existing schedule. According to Misri, the two leaders agreed to meet in the near future. Modi has left Canada for Croatia.
Misri added that Modi invited Trump to India for the next meeting of Quad. While accepting the invitation, Trump said that he is excited to come to India, the foreign secretary said.
This was Modi’s first interaction with the US president after the commencement of Operation Sindoor. The Prime Minister told Trump that India has never accepted third-party mediation and will not do so in the future. Modi also made it clear that India will now treat acts of terror, not as proxy actions but acts of war.
