Lahore: A strike on Pakistan is imminent in the wake of last month’s Pahalgam attack in which terrorists bred across the border shot dead 26 innocent civilians, mostly tourists.
Several states have been directed by the Union Home ministry to conduct mock drills and train civilians to protect themselves in the event of a hostile attack.
As tension escalates, Pakistan once again warned that it will strike back if attacked.
Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) General Asim Munir said that Pakistan is in favour of peace, but will respond with “full military might” if its sovereignty or territorial integrity is threatened.
“Pakistan seeks peace in the region and beyond; however, if Pakistan’s sovereignty and territorial integrity are violated, Pakistan will respond with full force to preserve its national prestige and the well-being of its people,” GEO TV quoted General Munir as saying while speaking at the General Headquarters in Rawalpindi during an interaction with participants of the 15th National Workshop Balochistan.
India had accused Pakistan of supporting “cross-border terrorism” after the Pahalgam massacre and imposed a slew of diplomatic measures, such as suspending the Indus Waters Treaty, closing the main land border and downgrading diplomatic ties.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home minister Amit Shah and Defence minister have all vowed to track down the terrorists and their handlers, and punish them beyond their imagination.
Pakistan earlier claimed it had “credible intelligence” that India is preparing for military action post the Pahalgam terror attack.
