Bhubaneswar: Odisha continued to experience a pronounced cold wave with minimum temperatures dipping significantly below normal across several districts.

G Udayagiri, the hill station in Kandhamal district, turned out to be the coldest place in the state recording a minimum temperature of 2.8°C, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

In the planes, the lowest temperature of 5.8°C was recorded in Phulbani. Cold wave conditions prevailed in some pockets of Angul and Jharsuguda, where departures from normal ranged from –5.3°C to –5.7°C, indicating a sharp deviation from seasonal averages.

Koraput (9.8°C, –3.6°C departure), Paradip (13.0°C, –3.6°C), and Gopalpur (13.9°C, –2.9°C) also experienced notable drops in temperature.

State capital Bhubaneswar recorded a minimum temperature of 10.9°C, while the millennium city of Cuttack saw a slightly cooler minimum of 10.2°C. Both cities reported no significant weather events, maintaining dry and stable conditions.

The widespread cold was felt across western, central and coastal Odisha, with many stations reporting minimums below 10°C. Cities which recorded temperatures below 10°C are G.Udayagiri at 2.8°C, Similiguda in Koraput district at 4.4°C, Phulbani at 5.8°C, Rourkela at 6°C, Jharsuguda at 6.8°C, Bolangir and Chipilima 8°C, Kirei at 8.5°C, Angul at 8.8°C, Bhawanipatna at 8.9°C, Keonjhar at 9.2°C, Dhenkanal and Koraput 9.8°C each and Nabarangpur and Rayagada at 10°C each.

Dry weather dominated the state, with no significant precipitation reported. Shallow fog was observed in Bhawanipatna, reducing visibility to between 500 and 1000 meters during early morning hours. Despite the chill, daytime conditions remained clear.

As per the weather agency, the mercury level is expected to rise from tomorrow in most parts of the state under the influence of western disturbances. People have been advised to remain cautious during early mornings and nights, especially in vulnerable regions where temperatures remain significantly below normal.
