New Delhi: Union ministers had claimed five months ago that the entire eligible population in India will be fully vaccinated by the end of this year.
With just nine days to go before we bid goodbye to 2021, that goal is not going to be met for sure. But how much of the population have received both doses of the vaccine against COVID-19?
According to Union Health minister Mansukh Mandaviya, over 60% of the eligible population is now fully vaccinated.
“Accomplishing more new feats! Congratulations India. Aided by public participating and dedicated efforts of our health workers, over 60% of the eligible population is fully vaccinated now.”
As of 8 am on December 23, 139.70 crore doses of COVID-19 vaccines have been administered, according to Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
The ministry also informed that 34,208,926 people have so far recovered from the coronavirus across the country, taking the nationwide recovery rate to 98.40% — the highest since March 2020. Daily case positivity rate currently is 0.62% per cent, and has remained less than 2% for the past 80 days.
