Ganjam: The Odisha government has decided to close down two COVID hospitals in the district following a significant decrease in new cases of coronavirus infection.

Ganjam Collector Vijay Amruta Kulange on Wednesday said the Tata COVID hospital at Sitalapalli will be closed from December 20. He has informed the Chief Executive Officer, Hi-Tech Medical College and Hospital, Bhubaneswar in this regard in an official letter on Tuesday.

The collector has also requested the hospital authorities not to admit any new cases and execute necessary formalities on handing over the hospital.

Similarly, Aswini Covid Hospital at Golanthara in Berhampur will be closed from December 31. As the new positive cases of COVID-19 in the district have drastically come down and the bed occupancy in the hospital is very less, the district administration has decided to close it, said the collector.

He has written to the Managing Director, Aswini Group of Hospitals Cuttack in this regard and requested not to admit new cases after December 21.

However, the collector highly appreciated the support of the hospitals in COVID management in the district. The dedication of hospital staff to manage the cases during pandemic is unforgettable, he added.
