Bahraich: In a horrifying incident early Sunday morning, a four-year-old boy was abducted by a wolf from beside his sleeping mother in Mallahanpurwa hamlet of Godahiya village, under Kaiserganj area, leaving the village shaken.
According to reports, the child — identified as Subhash, son of Santosh and Kiran — was asleep beside his mother when a wolf slipped inside the mud house at around 1 a.m., grabbed him in its jaws, and fled.
The mother woke up to her son’s cries and attempted to chase the animal, crying for help; villagers joined in a frantic night-long search, but by dawn only the child’s torn clothes and small fragments of human flesh were recovered about a kilometer from the home.
This tragic event marks a further escalation in a recent spate of wolf attacks across the district. According to authorities, in the past two months the wolf menace has resulted in ten deaths — including eight children — and multiple injuries.
In response, the local forest and police departments have launched joint operations, deploying patrol units at night, and attempting to track down the wolf-pack. So far, four wolves have reportedly been killed following directives from the state administration.
Residents remain deeply traumatized, demanding stronger measures — night patrols, safe shelters for children, and rapid response mechanisms — to prevent further tragedies. Meanwhile, authorities have pledged continued vigilance and strengthened night-time security in the affected areas.
