Bhubaneswar: Three persons, including a woman, were arrested by the Special Crime Unit of police for allegedly transporting brown sugar in Bhubaneswar.
Based on information gathered during constant surveillance over the last few days, the special crime unit launched a special operation and 556 grams of brown sugar, valued at over Rs 60 lakh, as well as huge cash and jewellery.
Police said the team also apprehended a woman hailing Khurda and two men from Nimapada while they were transporting the contraband in a luxury car.
Apart from the brown sugar, police recovered Rs 5,10,000 in cash and gold and silver ornaments during the raid.
The arrested persons have been identified as Lina alias Anita Paramguru from Khurda, Raja alias Rajendra Kumar Sahoo and Siba Prasad Das, both from Nimapada in Puri district.
Twin city Commissioner of Police, S Dev Datta Singh said police had been tracking the movements of the accused for the past few days in Jatni area.
Investigation is in progress to ascertain the involvement of others in the racket.
