Cuttack: A woman was arrested by police for torturing her own daughter in Kathjodi Vihar, here.
According to sources, the woman, Mannu Ojha, had left her husband and was living with her paramour along with her six-year-old daughter.
The child was beaten by her 25-year-old mother and the latter’s lover frequently over trivial issues. On Sunday, Mannu beat the child with an iron rod as the latter was neglecting her studies, the sources said.
On being informed, Cuttack Childline members led by its Convener Narayan Shukla went to Mannu’s house under Markat Nagar police station and rescued the child. Later, they produced her before the Child Welfare Committee, Cuttack.
On the basis of a complaint filed by the Childline, police arrested Mannu while her lover is absconding.
