Woman Carries Husband On Tricycle For 18 Km To Collect Pension In Odisha’s Keonjhar

Keonjhar: A woman had to push a tricycle with her physically disabled husband sitting on it for about 18 km to collect his pension in the district.

According to sources, Dulung Chatamba, the physically challenged person, and his wife Surjya Chatamba of Badanai village under Champua block set out on the 18-km journey to the block office at Champua at 5 am on Monday. With Dulung sitting on the tricycle, it took Surjya five hours to reach the office.

Unfortunately, Dulung does not have a tricycle of his own despite being a Divyang. He had to borrow one from another person of his village.

Surjya said due to their poor financial condition, they were not able to buy a tricycle. “We are poor and my husband is physically handicapped. We will ask the BDO to help us,” sources quoted Surjya as saying.

District Social Security Officer Jayakrushna Barik said, “We will check if Dulung is getting the allowance or not. If his name is enrolled in the list, we can deliver the allowance at his doorstep as per the government norms.”

Barik assured of facilitating his registration process and payment of pension soon, if Dulung has not been enrolled.
