Nabarangpur: In a shocking incident, police have dug up parts of a young woman, who was allegedly cut into 31 pieces and buried by a married man, in Odisha’s Nabarangpur district.
According to sources, the 21-year-old woman, identified as Tilabai Ganda of Baghabeda village under Raighar police limits in the district was in a relationship with Chandra Rout of Muramdihi village for the last two years.
Tilabai had been insisting on getting married to Chandra who is already married. On Wednesday, she went to the house of Chandra and threatened to expose him if he did not marry her.
Alarmed by her threat, Chandra revealed his affair to his wife and both of them hatched a plot to eliminate Tilabai. They allegedly took Tilabai to a forest near Muramdihi where they killed her. They also cut her into 31 pieces and buried the body parts at different places in the forest.
Meanwhile, Tilabai’s father Luduram Ganda filed a complaint with the police as his daughter did not return home on Wednesday.
Some villagers of Muramdihi spotted a foot of Tilabai protruding from the ground and blood spots around it on Saturday. Suspecting that it was a human body, they informed the police. A team from Raighar police station went to the spot and dug out the body parts of Tilabai.
The police have detained Chandra and his wife in connection with the case and were questioning them. They have also sent the body parts for post-mortem.
SDPO Aditya Sen said Luduram had lodged a complaint that his daughter had been murdered and buried. On the basis of his complaint, an investigation has been started, he added.
