Sundargarh: A woman was killed and her son critically injured after being run over by a truck in Kutra area of Odisha’s Sundargarh district.
As per preliminary information, the mishap took place near Garposh Chowk under the jurisdiction of Kutra Police Station when the two were returning from Rourkela on a bike.
The deceased woman has been identified as Dileswari Das, a resident of Gopalpur area under Hemagiri police limits.
Sources said the woman along with her son had gone to see her brother, who had passed away in a Rourkela-based private hospital. They were on their way to Sundargarh from Rourkela when the truck dashed against their bike near Garposh Chowk. While the woman died on the spot, her son is currently undergoing treatment in hospital. His condition was stated to be critical.
Angry over the accident, local residents staged a protest and blocked the road demanding action against the truck driver. The blockade was lifted after police intervened and pacified the protesters.
