Bhubaneswar: A foiled an alleged kidnapping attempt near the Nayapalli flyover in Bhubaneswar by jumping out of a moving auto-rickshaw. The young woman was grievously injured in the incident, police said on Thursday.
As per information, the woman was travelling in an autorickshaw from Acharya Vihar towards Nayapalli on Wednesday evening when the incident took place.
Instead of taking the service road, the autorickshaw driver suddenly sped up the vehicle over the flyover. When she questioned him, a man travelling in the three-wheeler pressed a cloth over her face and tried to overpower her.
Realising that she was being abducted, the woman resisted and pushed away the attacker. In a desperate bid to save herself, she jumped out of the moving auto and sustained severe head injuries after falling onto the road. However, the auto driver and his accomplice fled the scene.
People present near the site rushed to her aid and informed her family, who admitted her to a private hospital. After regaining consciousness, she narrated the entire ordeal.
The woman’s family lodged a complaint at the Nayapalli police station. Police have registered a case and launched an investigation. CCTV footages from different locations are being examined to identify the accused and apprehend them.
