Bhubaneswar: A woman from Darjeeling sustained critical injury after her boyfriend allegedly slit her throat near Buddha Park in Bhubaneswar on Sunday.
As per preliminary information, the couple visited Buddha Park under the jurisdiction of Chandrasekharpur police station in the morning when an argument broke out between the two.
The man, identified as Tinku Gurum, reportedly confronted the woman over suspicion that she was having an affair with another person. Tinku was stated to have been insecure, and this suspicion appears to have led to a violent confrontation.
Claiming that he was married to the woman, the accused alleged that was cheating several men. “I am married to her, but she is now denying. She is in a relationship with another man,” he alleged.
As the argument escalated, Tinku allegedly pulled out a sharp weapon and slit the woman’s throat in a fit of rage, leaving her critically injured. Locals rushed to her aid and immediately restrained Tinku before he could flee.
The injured woman, who runs a small snacks stall, was taken to a nearby private hospital, where she remains in a critical condition.
On being informed, Chandrasekharpur police have taken the accused into custody and will produce him before the court. Investigators have registered a suo motu case and are examining the sequence of events leading up to the attack. The woman’s family members in Darjeeling have also been informed about the incident.
