Bangkok: If you don’t miracles, read this one.

Shortly after a severe earthquake hit neighbouring Myanmar and jolted Thailand, too, on Friday, a woman gave birth on the chaotic streets of Bangkok, outside the Police General Hospital building.

Two powerful earthquakes, measuring 7.7 and 6.4 on the Richter scale, sent the east Asian countries in a toss. As hundreds and thousands of panic-stricken people rushed out of buildings, the Police hospital was evacuated on an emergency basis and their beds brought out to the streets.

Videos shared on social media, which quickly went viral, showed a woman lying on a stretcher in labour, being surrounded by hospital staff. Medical teams responded efficiently to ensure the safe delivery.

Hospital spokesperson Sirikul Srisanga confirmed that both mother and child are safe and doing well.

The Thai Enquirer reported that the hospital did not have a specific earthquake response plan in place, and hence the staff implemented the fire evacuation protocol, prioritising patient safety. Patients were moved out to three designated safe zones as civil engineers assessed the hospital buildings for structural integrity.

Patients were prioritised into red, yellow, and green zones as per their seriousness to ensure efficient medical care during the emergency.

According to Myanmar state media, the death toll in the deadly earthquakes has surpassed 1,000, leading to a state of emergency being declared in Myanmar and Thailand.

An American agency has warned that the number could exceed 10,000.

Netizens want baby to be named ‘Hope’

As the video was shared all over internet, netizens celebrated the miraculous birth.

Many suggested that the kid be named ‘Hope’.

“Footage during the earthquake in #Bangkok a baby was born in the park. What a story to tell – I was born during the earthquake,” one post read.

“This kid must be named HOPE,” one user said, receiving the approval of many more.

“I don’t know how to react. This kid’s birthday is going to be so bittersweet. Like so many people died, but this one fought everything that was born in such conditions,” posted one person.

“This is such an iconic story to tell. Feels good that doctors and nurses did not leave the patients and delivered the baby in such conditions,” expressed one user.

“I hope the baby and the mother are fine. And I hope that everyone who is struggling right now will be fine. These countries need our help and prayers too,” commented another.
