Bhadrak: In a tragic incident, a woman patient lost her life allegedly following a lift malfunction at the District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) in Bhadrak on Thursday.
Tension prevailed in the hospital following the incident which triggered outrage among attendants of the patient and locals.
The deceased has been identified as Minati Parida who was a resident of Narasinghapur under Randia Gram Panchayat in the district.
As per preliminary information, the woman was brought to the hospital in 108 ambulance after she fell ill. After receiving preliminary treatment, she was being shifted to the medicine ward when the mishap occurred.
Sources said the lift suddenly started moving while Minati was inside. There was no staff near the lift and the woman got trapped. Sheis suspected to have died of suffocation. The incident triggered panic and protests at the hospital.
On being informed, a team of police personnel visited the hospital and brought the situation under control. An investigation has been initiated to ascertain the exact cause of the lift failure and examine possible lapses in hospital safety protocols.
