Bhubaneswar: A woman belonging to the state capital’s Mancheshwar area paid a heavy price for flirting on Facebook recently. The man she had befriended on the social networking site duped her of over Rs 2 lakh on the promise of getting her a job.
A native of Bhograi area of Balasore district, the married woman and the man began their friendship with playing the online game ‘Hugo’ together and later developed an intimate relationship. According to the woman’s complaint, the accused assured her of getting a manager’s job in a private company.
She also alleged that he visited her house once when she was alone, intoxicated her and later got physically intimate with her. He clicked pictures and recorded a video of the entire act and later started blackmailing her with the same. After uploading the pictures and video on social media, he started demanding another Rs 2 lakh from the woman for deleting it. The woman told her husband everything before informing the police.
Events took an ugly turn three days ago when the accused aksed the woman to meet her in a restaurant in Khandagiri area. She went there with her husband. The accused demanded money but when he realised he’s not going to get it, he snatched the woman’s mobile phone and gold jewellery and even thrashed her husband before fleeing the spot.
The couple later lodged a complaint with Khandagiri Police. The accused has yet to be nabbed.
