Angul: Tension prevails in Raida village of Kantapada panchayat under Thakurgarh police station limits in Odisha’s Angul district after a woman was shot dead by a youth while trying to save her husband in the night on Wednesday.
The deceased has been identified as Ratani Pradhan while the condition of her husband Anam was stated to be critical in SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack.
Police later arrested the accused Rabi Bhuyan on Thursday.
Sources said one Rabi Bhuyan of Raida village had previous enmity with Anam. On Wednesday night, Bhuyan barged into Anam’s house. As soon as he opened fire at him, his wife came in front of him to save her husband and died on the spot after a bullet hit her chest. The accused later opened one more round of fire at Anam and fled the area.
Hearing the gunshot, some villagers rushed to the spot and informed the police who rushed to the village admitted the injured to the district headquarters hospital. But as his condition worsened, he was later shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack.
The body of the deceased has been sent to the district headquarters hospital for post mortem.
