Woman Techie’s Death In Bhubaneswar: Police Likely To Summon Boyfriend; Audio Clip Goes Viral
Bhubaneswar: The twin city Police Commissionerate is likely to summon Soumyajeet Mohapatra, the boyfriend of software engineer Sweta Utkal Kumari who was found hanging in a rented apartment at Sailashree Vihar in Odisha’s capital, for questioning.
Meanwhile, an audio clip of the “last phone call” purportedly between Sweta and Soumyajeet has gone viral, in which he allegedly uses filthy language against her and asks her to go away from his life.
In the police complaint, Sweta’s father has alleged that Soumyajeet’s family had demanded Rs 30 lakh for their wedding. “Twice we had visited Soumyajeet’s house to fix the wedding. They demanded Rs 30 lakh and misbehaved with us,” he alleged.
Sweta and Soumyajeet met in 2018 while working with an IT major in Bhubaneswar. “It was a one-sided love affair and Soumyajeet threatened to end his life if my sister did not reciprocate. This is how the relationship started. We came to know about it after one and a half years,” her brother said.
According to Sweta’s brother, Soumyajeet was torturing her physically and mentally. “He started blackmailing Sweta threatening to make their intimate pictures and videos viral,” he added.
After quitting his job to pursue MBA, he started extorting money from Sweta, they alleged, demanding a detailed probe and strict action against the culprit.
