[Watch] Woman With Sickle Cell Delivers Quadruplets At Cuttack SCB, Thanks Ollywood Actor Sabyasachi For Help

Cuttack: A woman gave birth to quadruplets (all baby girls) at SCB Medical College and Hospital, here on Saturday.

The woman, Chhabita Nayak of Sarankul  in Bhanjanagar of Ganjam district, was admitted to a hospital in Bhanjanagar for delivery. On June 3, as her condition was very weak and she required specialised care, the doctor’s suggested shifting her to Cuttack.

The family, which was struggling to make ends meet, sought the help of Ollywood actor Sabyasachi Mishra.

Sabyasachi, who had earlier helped Chhabita’s brother to return from Tamil Nadu during the first phase of lockdown, came to the rescue of the pregnant woman.

He spoke to the woman, and arranged for shifting her to SCBMCH at Cuttack. At SCBMCH tests revealed that Chhabita is suffering from Sickle cell, severe jaundice as well as anaemia and needed special care.

As her condition was fragile, the team of doctors led by Dr Tushar Kar, provided adequate medical attention and she delivered on Saturday evening.

The babies weighing 1 kg, 800 gram, 650 gram and 400 gram, and are doing well, informed Dr Kar. All the newborns have been kept in the SNCU of the gynaecology department of the hospital as their weight is low.

The doctors and specialist of gynaecology, haematology and hepatology departments took a multidisciplinary approach and followed a unique procedure to save five lives, said Sabyasachi and thanked the doctors for their immediate response.

In a message Sabyasachi said, “A big thanks to all the great souls Dr Tushar Kar, Dr Kirtirekha Mohapatra, Dr Ranjita Ghadei, Dr Satyaban Jena and other medical staff who made this possible.
