Indore: Odisha girls fought hard to successfully defend a low total in the BCCI Women’s One-Day Trophy match against Bengal here on Monday.
After managing a modest score of 172/9 in their 50 overs, Odisha bowlers and fielders put up a fine display to bowl out Bengal for 164, thus winning by 8 runs.
It was Odisha’s third win in 4 matches in the tournament, having beaten Sikkim and Mizoram, and lost to Mumbai.
Asked to bat first, Odisha lost their openers with the total reading 32. Alipsa Biswal (54) and Suchismita Panda (38) steadied the innings with a 73-run partnership for the fourth wicket. The lower order didn’t contribute much as Odisha fell well short of the 200-run mark.
Bengal made a steady start and looked to be on course at 103/2.
However, restrictive bowling and fine fielding put pressure on Bengal batters, who collapsed dramatically.
S B Lorence (3/35) and Puja Yadav (2/24) were the most successful bowlers, while the alert fielders effected three run outs.
Brief scores: Odisha 172/9 in 50 overs (Alipsa Biswal 54, Suchismita Panda 38; Rupal Tiwari 3/23, Sneha Gupta 3/36). Bengal 164 all out in 47 overs (Muskan Sinha 43, Bristi Majhi 41; S B Lorence 3/35, Puja Yadav 2/24).
Result: Odisha won by 8 runs.
