Bhubaneswar: In a major step for the redevelopment of Bhubaneswar Railway Station, the Odisha government has granted work permission for the construction of the elevated driveway and exit road on the Master Canteen side of the station.

This development is a crucial component in the modernisation of Bhubaneswar station and will accelerate the overall project timeline.

The permission specifically allows for the construction of the elevated approach and exit road on the land allocated by the Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA). The move will ensure that the redevelopment project proceeds smoothly while keeping in mind the collaborative planning between East Coast Railway (ECoR) and BDA.

As part of the broader station redevelopment, the development of parking areas and commercial spaces within the station precincts will be done in consultation with the Bhubaneswar Development Authority. BDA is also planning to develop commercial areas over the land allotted to them, ensuring that the interests of both the railway station and BDA are aligned, creating a modern, vibrant station complex for the future, ECoR said in a statement on Wednesday.

This development will help expedite the completion of the Bhubaneswar station redevelopment and modernisation project. Construction is expected to begin immediately, with work starting on the foundation for the elevated driveway. The overall project, which includes the station’s new entry and exit routes, lifts, escalators on all platforms and an air-concourse, is on track.

The Indian Railways is investing Rs 419 crore into the redevelopment project, which will result in the creation of state-of-the-art facilities and amenities for passengers. This includes entry from both sides, an air-concourse connecting all the platforms, separate entry and exit points, Lift & Escalators, baggage security check-in area, information center, food plaza, Waiting Room, etc.

The redevelopment of Bhubaneswar Railway Station is a testimony to Indian Railways Amrit Station Scheme for developing a seamless, world-class travel experience that meets the experience of passengers. With this recent approval, the project is poised to meet its deadlines and transform Bhubaneswar into a key hub in India’s railway network.
