Rourkela: A worker engaged on contract died in a mishap at the Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) in Odisha on Saturday.
The deceased has been identified as Prakash Swain, aged around 54 years and a resident of the Bali Jodi area. He was working at the Calcining Plant-2 (CP-2) unit of RSP.
As per information, the incident took place in the evening when Swain was cleaning the roof sheets in the CP-2 section. He reportedly slipped and fell from a height of around 20 feet. He was immediately rushed to the medical centre at the plant and later shifted to the Ispat General Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
RSP authorities said Swain was found unconscious at the site and was promptly taken for medical attention
Sources said a committee has been formed to investigate the incident. Based on preliminary findings, two officials have been suspended in connection with the case.
Expressing grief over the incident, RSP’s Director-in-Charge Alok Verma said all possible assistance would be provided to the bereaved family.
