Bhubaneswar: The working hours of lecturers of government colleges in Odisha will be extended from five to seven hours. A government notification regarding this will be released soon.
The Odisha Higher Education Department organised a brainstorming session here with the principals of 52 government colleges to strengthen the higher education system in Odisha.
According to UGC guidelines, college faculty members should take a minimum of 25 classes every week and remain present for five hours a day in the college.
It was decided in the meeting that the lecturers have to stay for two more hours for research activities and academic development work.
The Higher Education Department has decided to set up biometric attendance in all government colleges in Odisha.
Sixteen out of 52 colleges have biometric attendance system.
Besides, the state government will take the initiative to appoint permanent principals in all the government colleges.
Higher Education Minister Arun Sahoo was present in the meeting.
He took views from the principals of all government colleges on how to strengthen the higher education system in Odisha.
