Rohit, who so far played an attacking cricket in World Cup 2023, started off on a similar note against with a beautiful four, but Madushanka made a comeback on the next ball by dismissing the Indian skipper on 4 runs.

Currently, Virat Kohli and opener Shubman Gill are trying stabilise Indian innings after early wicket.

Notably, Sri Lanka skipper Kusal Mendis won the toss and invited India to bat in what is a rematch of the 2011 World Cup final at the same stadium. Rohit then said that they would have batted first if they had won the toss.

While India went into the match with its winning combination, Sri Lanka made one change with Dushan Hemantha replacing Dhananjaya de Silva.
