Joda/Barbil: Jindal Steel and Power (JSP) celebrated World Environment Day at Odisha’s Barbil Pellet Plant, Kasia and Tensa mines with plantation drives and awareness programmes in line with the global theme – ‘Beat Plastic Pollution’.

On the occasion, JSP Chairman and MP from Kurukshetra Naveen Jindal, in a social media post, said “The effects of plastic pollution are far-reaching. It significantly impacts our environment and adds to our carbon footprint through its production and disposal. By cutting down on single-use plastics, choosing reusable options, and encouraging sustainable alternatives, we can all make a meaningful difference.”

At the Barbil Pellet Plant, Unit Head Purushotham M D led mini marathon and mass plantation drive with active participation of employees along with their family members. The day culminated in an evening event where winners of various competitions on the theme were recognised and felicitated.

Similarly, at Kasia Mines, the day was observed with a pledge ceremony, street play and tree plantation under the leadership of Unit Head Pramod Kumar Patra. Guali Forester Sarat Pattnayak and Barbil Forester Ashutosh Chakraborty graced the occasion.

At Tensa Mines, under the guidance of Unit Head Raghuraj Raghubanshi the Company celebrated the day with a range of activities, including plantation, pledge taking, cleanliness drives and an art competition to create awareness. Barsuan Ranger Dharanidhar Sahoo, along with senior officers, employees and their family members were present on the occasion.

All the events on this special occasion were orchestrated by the Environment Management Departments of the respective locations.

JSP’s social arm, Jindal Foundation also conducted impactful initiatives, which included plantation of fruit-bearing trees, drawing competitions among school children and awareness-driven street plays. Additionally, reusable cotton bags were distributed among villagers to encourage eco-friendly practices. In the evening, an exhibition on environmental protection and plastic reduction was organised in the Jindal Nagar, Deojhar.
