Sharjah: The biggest cricket tournament for overseas Odias kicked off at Australian International School in Sharjah, UAE, on Sunday.
Touted as the world’s largest Prabasi Odia cricket tournament, the 9th edition of Odisha Cup UAE 2022 has brought together a record 12 teams.
An exhibition match between seniors of Odia Gladiators Dubai and Odisha Samaj Abu Dhabi Seniors was held on the opening day. Odia Gladiators won the match by 39 runs.
Held in a carnival-type atmospthere, it was a fun and exciting weekend for Odia families. A special attraction was traditional Odia food being served at the venue.
Chief Guest Uttam Chand, Consul (Visa and Community Affairs), Indian Consulate, Dubai, complimented the spirit of the organizers who have kept holding the tournament despite severe obstacles in the form of COVID-19.
He assured Indian Consulate’s support in every effort that binds the community and promotes the welfare of community members.
Odisha Cup advisor and senior business management professional Priyadarshee Panigrahi said this was the largest Odia cricket meet in the world (outside India).
