Bhubaneswar: BJD spokesperson Lenin Mohanty has described BJP leader Manmohan Samal’s comments on Yaas relief work as politically motivated.

Mohanty said the government had provided free food to the people in the regions ravaged by the very severe cyclonic storm, which hit the Odisha coast around Balasore on May 26.

“The loss estimation has been done properly and relief and rehabilitation work is going on in full swing. Samal probably has no information on the efforts being putting in by the state government to restore normally in the affected areas,” he said.

The senior BJP leader and former Revenue Minister had alleged that the state government had done little for mitigating the miseries of cyclone ravaged people in Bhadrak, Jajpur and Kendrapada districts. Samal said people in the districts are still marooned and without power.

Samal told mediapersons that most parts of the Yaas-ravaged areas are bereft of road connectivity and criticised the state government for its inability to provide immediate relief to the people.

The BJP leader said he had gone to the cyclone-affected districts to take stock of the situation and found the houses flattened.

Stating that 8.15 lakh pucca houses have been sanction by the Centre under the PMAY scheme, Samal advised the government to convert all kutcha houses into pucca to withstand a cyclone.

The former Revenue Minister also demanded a clarification from the state government on housing facilities provided to those whose houses were destroyed during cyclone Fani and Amphan.

Samal also urged the government to write off farm loans and urged the authorities to undertake proper loss assessment.
