Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Mohan Majhi on Thursday presented Odisha’s comprehensive development vision while replying to the Motion of Thanks on the Governor’s address in the state Assembly.

He highlighted the government’s ambitious economic roadmap, aiming to position Odisha as a $500 billion economy by 2036 and a $1.5 trillion economy by 2047, aligning with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a Developed India where Odisha emerges as a key growth engine. He emphasised the need for sustained 9.5% annual growth to achieve a per capita income of rs 32 lakh by 2047, alongside reducing multidimensional poverty to 5% and building an inclusive, self-reliant Odisha.

“Yes, We Can,” Majhi declared, stressing that the people’s welfare remains paramount.

The CM also criticised the opposition BJD and Congress for their conduct during the session. He accused them of repeatedly disrupting the House through sloganeering and creating chaos, rather than engaging constructively in the debate on the Governor’s address. He noted with regret that opposition members, including Leader of Opposition Naveen Patnaik, staged a walkout during the Governor’s speech, which he called disappointing and contrary to democratic traditions.

Defending the government’s farmer-focused initiatives, Majhi addressed criticisms on paddy procurement and input subsidies. He contrasted procurement of over 73 lakh metric tonnes in the 2024-25 kharif season at Rs 3,100 per quintal, benefiting over 16.6 lakh farmers with around Rs 23,000 crore, with the previous 24-year regime, when farmers’ income ranked near the bottom nationally with monthly average of Rs 5,115.

The CM highlighted the launch of input subsidies from Sohela in Bargarh shortly after assuming office, and ongoing efforts to build 100 model mandis and expand storage infrastructure. He issued a stern warning against any malpractice that harms farmers’ interests.

On broader development, the Chief Minister underscored infrastructure gains, including Rs 90,000 crore in ongoing rail projects, Rs 50,000 crore in national highway approvals over the past 1.5 years, and plans for world-class roads, airports, ports, and economic corridors like the Capital Region Ring Road and Bhubaneswar-Cuttack-Puri-Paradip Economic Region.

He emphasised youth empowerment through skill development over mere certificates, partnerships with Singapore for World Skill Centres, modernisation of ITIs, and establishment of semiconductor, AI, biotech, and textile parks.

Majhi mentioned receiving Rs 20 lakh crore in investment proposals, with Rs 2.5 lakh crore projects grounded, creating around 2 lakh jobs.

Highlighting women’s empowerment, he praised schemes like providing Rs 10,000 annually to one crore women under the Subhadra Yojana, boosting their confidence and self-reliance. He also paid tribute to President Droupadi Murmu as a symbol of Nari Shakti.

The CM further contrasted his “people-centric” governance, focused on transparency, Janasunani outreach and anti-corruption drive with the alleged bureaucratic stranglehold during the previous regime, distancing people from the administration.

He called for united efforts to build a prosperous Odisha, urging opposition for constructive participation.
